Simple Steps to get your perfect Fit
If the prospect of shopping for a bra fills you with dread, or the size and shape of your breasts have changed, there are many reasons why as many as 8 out of 10 of us are now wearing the wrong bra size. It is estimated that as many as 80% of ladies are wearing pretty but ill-fitting bras.
A correctly fitting bra not only has obvious health benefits (no more aching back for starters), it will increase your confidence too!
How to Measure The measurement of your body around the rib cage is given a number - 34, 36, 38, 40, etc, Hold the tape measure against your skin, making sure the tape measure is: Your back size Level all the way around the body just underneath your breasts and make sure the tape measure is horizontal and fairly snug. This will give you your back size. Take a measurement in inches and round to the nearest even number. For instance, if your measurement is 31 inches, your back size would be 32. If you measured 34.5 inches, your back size would be 34. Pulled as tight as your bra would be worn, otherwise the bra may be too loose and ride up at the back giving no support to the bust. Your cup size Measure loosely around the fullest part of your bust in inches (not too tightly or the measurement will be inaccurate). If you don't have a bra, or if the one you have is very poorly fitting, bend over so your back is parallel to the floor and measure around your chest, over your nipples. Take this measurement in inches and round to the nearest whole number. Tip: Do not breathe in. This expands the rib cage and does not give a relaxed measurement. Your cup size is the size of your bust and is referred to as a letter – B, C, D, DD, etc, The easiest way to find out your cup size is to look at the bra you are currently wearing and see if any of these problems apply. Cup size too big If there is bagginess in the cup, the bust is not supported and the neck edge is loose. You will notice a gap between the bottom of the bust and the wire. Go down a cup size to get a more comfortable, supportive fit. You could try dropping a back size too if there’s creasing around the nipples. Cup size is too small When the bust is flattened the neck edge is tight. The bust bulges out at the front or underarm. The wire sits on the bust at the underarm or at the front. Go up a cup size which will be more comfortable for you. Straps are too long If your straps are too long you’re not getting good support here and your bust is subject to gravity. Try shortening your bra straps to strengthen the support. Back Band is too big One of the most common problems is wearing a bra with a back size that’s too big. This won’t give you the right support as the straps are holding the entire bust. Try tightening the back fastening, or go down a back size.
Here’s how to test if your bra is the perfect fit:
Your bra should be firm but comfortable. When you stand side-on at a mirror, the strap should be horizontal and should never ride up at the back. The bra should be position halfway between your shoulder and elbow. If you see the back riding up, you should try a smaller back size. The wires at the front of your bra should lie flat against your rib cage and don’t dig in. Instead, the cups should hold your bust comfortably and supportively, with no bulging, squeezing or looseness; also your breasts should be enclosed in the cups with a smooth line where the fabric at the top of the cup meets your bust.Tip: Bra measurements are not an exact science. Manufacturers are all different and sometimes you may wear different sizes or different bras. Use your measurements as a guide, but don’t be afraid to try a different size. Top tips: Bras can stretch up to 2 inches through washing and wear, so when you’re trying on a new bra make sure it fits right on the loosest hook. You can tighten the fit if necessary. Wearing the right bra will improve your posture and can prevent backache. Remember your shape will change – wearing the right bra will give the appearance of a slimmer waist and smaller bust. Never wear the same bra two days in a row. The material needs to rest to maintain its elasticity You should buy a new bra every six months. Always try to hand washing yours bras and never putting your bras in the dryer. This will reduce the life of your bra and its elasticity. Choose the right bra for the right occasion. If you want a killer cleavage, wear a half-balcony bra. But if you want a more minimal look opt for a minimiser bra.
